BACKGROUND ON MERYL'S CLASSIC "ROLLING STONE" COVER
Posted: 2006-11-23 | Source: Webmaster |
Here's a transcript from the book "Rolling Stone 1,000 Covers: A History of the Most Influential Magazine in Pop Culture",
in which photographer Annie Leibovitz is giving insight on how the idea for Meryl's famous
cover photo was born, alongside a funny quote by Meryl herself. Many thanks
to Holly for the transcript.
"I was scheduled to shoot [Meryl Streep] for the cover of Rolling
Stone. The French Lieutenant's Woman was coming out and that week, [Francesco] Scavullo had
shot her for the cover of Time, I think. And she'd had such a miserable time at that shooting -
she was becoming this very big star, they wanted her to look like a big star, and she couldn't
deal with it - that she cancelled my shooting. So I called up her agent and screamed for 45
minutes, and finally the agent said 'She won't go anywhere with you. She'll come to your
studio and give you between 9.30 and 12 in |
|
|
the morning and that's it.'
So she came to the studio and she told me about the Time shooting, and she said how she didn't want to be anybody, she
was nobody, all she was was an actress. So, I said 'Well, be nobody, be a mime. Let's try the
whiteface.' And she really loved it. That's when she started to pull her cheeks out like this -
she did that herself. It's just great when that stuff starts to happen."
Annie Leibovitz
"Put yourself in this position. You're passing the newsstand at 57th Street and 6th Avenue, and there's your face on the cover of a magazine. And one week later, you're on the subway, and there's that cover with your face, on the floor. Somebody's probably pissed on it."

MERYL STREEP PRAISES ALTMAN'S WORK
Posted: 2006-11-22 | Source: Webmaster |
USA Today has published reactions and condolences from many of Robert Altman's colleagues and
actors, including Meryl Streep. Her statement is below, the full article can be
read here.
"Bob's restless spirit has moved on — I have to say, when I spoke with him last week, he
seemed impatient for the future. He still had the generous, optimistic appetite for the next
thing, and we planned the next film laughing in anticipation of the laughs we'd have. What a
gent, what a guy, what a great heart. There's no one like him and we'll miss him so."

A NOTE ON FORUM REGISTRATIONS AND VIDEOS
Posted: 2006-11-01 | Source: Webmaster |
I'm getting lots of emails these days with questions concerning the two topics in the headline,
so it's best to write a little message about it there. Forum Registrations:
Due to lots of spam registrations (internet without spam isn't anymore), each account has to
be activated by me, so that usually takes a couple of days to go through, the best way to get
activated the fastest is to fill out all spaces, like "country", "hobbies" etc. Spammers usually
don't fill them out, so I see it's a real person ;-) If your account hasn't been activated
after a few days, please forward the "Welcome to Forums" email you've received to me at
webmaster@simplystreep.com. This way,
I have your username and can activate you right away. Video clips:
The exclusive clips in the Media section, means the clips that are hosted on my server, are
currently offline due to bandwidth problems - I do my best to find a sollution for that. Thanks
for your understanding!

MERYL STREEP'S TOP GREEN PRODUCT PICKS
Posted: 2006-11-01 | Source: Webmaster |
This article, written by Meryl Streep, has been published by "The Green Guide", the Green Living
Source for Today'S Conscious Consumer. "After the fun of playing Miranda Priestley, editor of
Runway magazine in The Devil Wears Prada, I was delighted to edit The Green Guide, a real
publication that provides practical eco choices for daily life. Green can be fun, too. And it
goes with just about everything-your diet, your home and, of course, that perfect little green
dress. The first environ-mentally sound products I ever bought were organic fruits and
vegetables because, as a mother of young children, I didn't want them exposed to toxic
pesticide residues. Protecting children's health also involves trying to stop global warming,
which is contributing to allergies and the spread of contagious disease, as I've learned from
the Harvard Center for Health and the Global Environment ( chge.med.harvard.edu). So the
greenhouse gas emissions released in shipping foods long distances is another good reason to
buy local. (To find a farmers' market near you, go to
www.ams.usda.gov/ farmersmarkets.)
