MERYL TALKS "LIONS FOR LAMBS" AND "MAMMA MIA!"
Posted: 2007-01-30 | Source: Webmaster

The following quotes come from Meryl's press room interview at the Golden Globes, so "Lions for Lambs" and "Mamma Mia!" can be considered as official!

Journalist: Hi Meryl, if you could mention something perhaps on the political implications of the movie you are making with Robert Redford about Afghanistan?
Meryl Streep: Oh it's a very complicated political thriller about conscience and bravery. It's about a professor and his student and there's a section of something happening in Afghanistan and there's a section of something happening in Washington and I'm in the Washington part - I play a journalist. Yes! I'm watching you all very hard (laughs)... it's exciting. And to work with Redford again, it's been such a long time and I'm very fond of him, too."

Journalist: Have you learned any ABBA songs, yet?
Meryl Streep: Yeah... you're not gonna hear 'em (laughter)... vocably I'm not afraid of... physical... (laughs), there's a lot of dancing, LOT of dancing.

DOWNTIME
Posted: 2007-01-23 | Source: Webmaster

I'm sure you've noticed that the site was down for a almost a week - unfortunately this has happened because the monthly traffic limit has been reached - mostly because of all the hits after the Golden Globe Awards (which I don't complain about, many visitors are never a bad thing ;-) and downloads of the videos. As for now, it's all back, nothing got lost - and it shouldn't happen again since all media files will be stored at another place. Just so you know. The site however has been updated during its downtime, so scroll down to get all the latest news and stuff!

GOLDEN GLOBES CONTINUED COVERAGE
Posted: 2007-01-16 | Source: Webmaster

Added over 100 more pictures from the Golden Globes' red carpet, the press room and its after party as well as screencaps from its telecast. Here's a small tidbit on the evening courtesy Entertainment Weekly: The queen of the night was Globes favorite Meryl Streep, who earned her 21st nomination and 6th win for The Devil Wears Prada. She gave perhaps the longest speech of the night, but no one was going to cut off the woman who noted that she'd worked with everyone in the room. She gently tweaked a few people, praised others, gave a shout-out to several fine indie movies she wasn't in (ask your local theater owner to screen them, she ordered), and wrapped up with her character's imperious catchphrase, ''That's all.''

Last but not list here's Meryl's funny - and long - acceptance speech:

(Entering the stage and talking to Miss Golden Globe, Jack Nicholson's daughter) Thank you! (Applause) Thank you. Thank you very much. I told Lorraine she came to a birthday party at my house in Beverly Hills with snakes... we had snakes! (Laughter) But then we moved back east. (Laughter) Oh my God, thank you everybody, thank you so much, I'm really thrilled. I think I worked with everybody in the room. (Laugther) Yes I have... (Meryl pulls out an acceptance speech) I'm gonna forget everything, I know... (refering to the audience) Oh shut up it's not that long. (Laughter). First of all, congratulations to the nominees in all the categories for Best Actress, it's like a million categories for Best Actress - but Annette and Toni and Beyonce and Renée, Penelope, Judi, Maggie and Helen and Kate, I just want you to know, all of you, that this is been such a fun year to watch movies because of you gals. (Applause) And it makes you wanna cry with graditude - until next year! (Laughter) I just wanna thank David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna for this sparkling script, its really sharp, smart direction made it just a pleasure. And thanks to Wendy Finerman and Carla Hackman and Elizabeth Gabler and Karen Rosenfelt for sheparding us through. Thank you for Tommy Rothman who signs the cheques and Rupert who signs his cheques. (Laughter). And thank you to Pat Field and Molly and Nina and the people in warderobe because that was like special effects for us! And... oh gosh, everybody. Delicious Emily Blunt, (throws her a kiss), darling! Darling Annie Hathaway, dreadful Stanley Tucci (Laughter). For the difficult job they had making me seem monsterous, anyway (Laughter). I just, I wanna thank everbody, especially everybody at FOX that let us donate all those clothes to "Equality Now" and Breast Cancer Research and Dress for Success (Applause), that was really classy! Totally great! And finally I just wanna say, the reason you could see "The Devil Wears Prada" is because it was playing on every theatre screen across America - and that was because they were playing it. And, if you can't see "Little Children" or "Pan's Labyrinth" or "The Queen" or... eh, all these great movies that I've just seen, "Volver", "Notes on a Scandal", "Sherrybaby" then you have to go down to your theater manager and ask him "why" (Applause). 'Cause its amazing how much you can get if you quietly, clearly and authoritatively demand it! (Laughter) That's all.

STREEP MENTIONED TO STAR IN "MAMMA MIA" MOVIE VERSION
Posted: 2007-01-11 | Source: Webmaster

According to Variety, Meryl Streep is set to star in the upcoming movie version of Phyllida Lloyd's musical "Mamma Mia". Lloyd, who directed the original in London as well as its Broadway incarnation, will make her feature directing debut on the pic, which will be shot in London and Greece. Streep will play the rebellious single mother of a bride-to-be who never met her father. The daughter invites three likely paternal candidates to her wedding, and the ensuing conflict triggers the performance of 22 Abba hits. An accomplished singer, Streep had been wooed for musical adaptations including "Evita," but "Mamma Mia" is her first full-blown musical. She sang in films including "Postcards From the Edge" and last year's "A Prairie Home Companion." Producer Judy Craymer is quoted by Variety that Meryl "was always at the top of our wish list, and she encapsulates the spirit and energy and has the powerhouse qualities that character requires". The full article is here, they also mention "Lion for Lambs", so it's getting more and more possible that she is officially working on it.

MERYL STREEP AMONG ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY'S TOP ENTERTAINERS OF 2006
Posted: 2007-01-02 | Source: Webmaster

Entertainment Weekly has given a spotlight to its own entertainers of 2006 in its December issue, paraising the cast members of hospital drama Grey's Anatomy, the video website YouTube, fake reporter Borat and actress Meryl Streep. Scans of Meryl's article can be found below with many thanks to Elmira. They also mention "Lion for Lambs" and "The Last Station" (the Tolstoy biopic starring Anthony Hopkins) as her upcoming projects, so lets hope they had grounded information for that

P.S. You might have noticed that the Site of the Month and Poll in the sidebar aren't there any more, I decided to close them due to lack of time for proper research. They'll be probably coming back but for now they're gone for good.
