STREEP AND TUCCI READ "THE ONE AND ONLY SHREK"
Posted: 2007-07-16 | Source: Webmaster |
Actors Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci make William Steig's characters come alive in
the six stories they read on "The One and Only Shrek!" It's captivating listening.
Tucci's gruffy voice is perfect for the wickedly ugly Shrek, the character who
inspired the current movie. And Streep's sweet voice brings out the lovable side of
Pearl in magical story "The Amazing Bone." Among the four other Steig stories they
read is the clever mouse dentist, "Doctor De Soto." This first-rate audiobook
launches Audio Renaissance's children's program. For more information, please visit

GERMAN PRODUCERS ANNOUNCE TOLSTOI IN SACHSEN-ANHALT
Posted: 2007-07-06 | Source: Webmaster |
Well it's a back and forth with "The Last Station". The project was announced a year
ago with Anthony Hopkins and Meryl Streep in the leads, playing Tolstoy and his wife.
Then Anthony Hopkins stated in an interview that the project was not going to happen
and that Meryl dropped out due to other commitments. Now, German producing company
Egoli Tossell Halle has announced that "The Last Station" will be shot in Sachsen-Anhalt,
Germany, in March 2008 - with Anthony Hopkins AND Meryl Streep. A translation of the
original German article, posted on the website of
Vanity Fair, is below:
The company Egoli Tossell Film AG of Berlin confirmed to Vanity Fair Online that Meryl
Streep and Anthony Hopkins are going to shoot a film about the Russian author Leo
Tolstoi. The film will be entitled "The Last Station" and tells the story of Tolstoy's
last months in his life. This includes the passionate conflicts with his wife Sofia
Andrejevna. The film's title refers to Tolstoy's death - he died on a trailway station.
Shooting of the film is slated to begin in March 2008 and is expected to take three months.

VIDEO CLIPS FROM FRENCH TELEVISION APPEARANCES
Posted: 2007-07-03 | Source: Webmaster |
The video archive has been updated with 10 very rare television interviews and reports
on Meryl and her visits to France, Cannes and the Deauville Film Festival, promoting
many of her films. The reports range from 1982 (!) to 1999 and feature footage and
interviews on "Marvin's Room", "Death Becomes Her", "Ironweed", "Out of Africa",
"Sophie's Choice" and "The French Lieutenant's Woman", among others, so they should not
be missed!

Edit: Many thanks to Tania @ the forums for translating the dubbed clips, it's very much
appreciated! Below are the transcripts of what Meryl said in the interviews:
ONE TRUE THING She denigrated her mother's values. She didn't
understand the wisdom and every-thing that her mother possessed. So, it's a story
that explains the importance to realize what's important in life and what you can
take from. Just telling her daughter to listen and to be compassionate, because
nobody is perfect. I think she gave a very beautiful lesson to her daughter at the
end.
MARVIN'S ROOM I love this part. I love this part because it was
something that gave me the oppor-tunity to exorcise all my demons, my angry, my
complex... all the masculine.
BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY I feel at home. I just feel like myself
here. I don't know who I feel like. I feel like Meryl Streep, I think. Francesca is a
very complicated character. She wakes up with the movie. She sacrificed herself to
her family. Then arrives a man that shows her there are so many infinite possibilities
in life. A wonderful story. If there's something true that the movie express is the
importance of never giving up a dream. Francesca is sensual but she is very reserved,
pudic, and she has not a good relation with her sexuality. [...] Oh, the music had a lot
with that. Because usually when you shoot a movie the music is chosen afterwards, but
Clint had very clear ideas about the music he wanted to use. He's known to be a very
inaccessible person, but when I first met him he was quite open. I think he may be
inacessible, but he makes decisions also about showing certain aspects of himself.
[He] was very enthusiast about making the movie, and I knew I wanted to do it.
perhaps I can speak franch, you know... no, I can't!... "pardonne moi pur ma 'poor'
français"
DEATH BECOMES HER It was grotesque. It was horrifing. It was not so
amusing as I thought it would be. I also fell down the stairs, it upset my children
very much. They just went *gasp*, like this. I've always chosen films in function of
the idea that beauty mustn't be an obsession.
A CRY IN THE DARK Press conference with Meryl Streep, her first time
in Cannes, who came to defend her movie that rehabilitates a woman unfairly condemned.
I just looked at this little woman, and I wondered: how can she have all that strengh?
What is it? Sshe was very religious and I'm sure that's where all her strenght came
from. She gave me her bible during the shooting, when we met, and I used
it.
IRONWEED The translation of the book into a screenplay was incredibly
hard and fascinating because of the way the characters lived without all the details
of life, with only the elements of simplest value: a cigarette, a bed, one meal. And
friendship. |
