Posted: 2007-11-13 | Source: Webmaster

The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation's sold-out Magical Evening Gala at the Marriott Marquis on Monday drew many celebrity supporters. For years, the Reeves raised awareness about spinal cord injuries after the Superman actor was paralyzed in a 1995 equestrian accident. Alexandra Reeve said Meryl Streep was a natural choice for the foundation's Dana Reeve Hope Award. "We started the award in honor of Dana to show a level of care and commitment of people to this cause, and Meryl's been there for us from the beginning from when Dad was first injured." "I'm very honored to be here and a little humbled," Streep said, adding, "I feel like I'm standing in light that they (the Reeves) cast. They were so charismatic in their advocacy." As for the theme of the evening, if she had a magical power, Streep said she would "double the size of the event and charge twice as much for the tables."

Late-night TV was the first casualty in the Writers Guild of America's first strike in nearly 20 years. When TV writers hit the picket lines Monday, it meant a handful of late-night shows on network and cable immediately turned to reruns. A Sept. 27 rerun of "Late Show with David Letterman" with Whoopi Goldberg, Melissa Etheridge and stupid human tricks was to have replaced a new show Monday with Meryl Streep.

HELP WITH TELEVISION APPEARANCES
Posted: 2007-11-02 | Source: Webmaster

Dear visitors, I'd like to ask you a favor to help the site. Many of you may know that Meryl attends The Late Show with David Letterman this coming Monday. Then, on November 8 (this coming Thurday) the BBC Northern Ireland will air an one-hour special on Meryl's trip to Belfast earlier this year. As for now, I won't be able to tape neither of the two tv programmes to share on the site. I'm sure that, like me, many fans won't be able to see them either, so it would be a great addition and highly appreciated to have them featured here. If you are able to help with any of these programmes and to make video clips for SimplyStreep, please drop me a line. Credit will be given of course!

STREEP WORKS WITH CRUISE, REDFORD, IN POLITICAL DRAMA
Posted: 2007-11-02 | Source: Webmaster

The Inquirer has published a great interview with Meryl, talking about "Lions for Lambs" and working with Tom Cruise, the Bush Administration, the paparazzi and filming "Mamma Mia". The full interview can be read in the press archive, an excerpt is below.

Since you play a probing TV journalist in the film, let’s imagine—if there is one question you could ask Mr. Bush, what would that be?
I would ask if it’s so hard to admit that you’ve made a mistake (on declaring a war on Iraq). It shouldn’t be that hard. If he doesn’t feel he has made a mistake, then there’s no question to be asked. But I would ask, “Why is it so difficult? Is he afraid to appear weak? Would a mistake or a misjudgment make him vulnerable to being perceived as weak around the world? What’s the problem with acknowledging mistakes?” I think we’d go a long way in the world if that were done. But that’s not really a question. That’s a statement, isn’t it?

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Meryl Streep may be playing Julia Child in a movie version of the famous cook's life: Meryl Streep will be whipping up some culinary delights as legendary chef Julia Child in Columbia Pictures "Julie & Julia." The film is an adaptation of the 2005 book by Julie Powell, "Julie & Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen." Columbia is in negotiations with Amy Adams to co-star as Powell. The film follows Powell, a government worker, who decides to cook her way through Child's classic, "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" in one year's time out of her small Brooklyn kitchen. Streep has starred in two films written by Ephron, 1983's "Silkwood" and 1986's "Heartburn."

  • "LIONS FOR LAMBS" OPENS AFI FILM FESTIVAL TONIGHT
    Posted: 2007-11-01 | Source: Webmaster

The American Film Institute's AFI Film Festival will open its doors today with a gala presentation of "Lions for Lambs". In the film, Streep plays broadcast journalist Janine Roth, a sort of weary and unsharpened version of Diane Sawyer, who has found that in recent years the hardest questions she has regard her own industry and its loss of standards and stamina in the face of political manipulation. She spends most of the film in a one-on-one interview in the office of Sen. Jasper Irving (Tom Cruise), who is a neoconservative with a military pedigree and high-wattage smile. The senator is pushing forward a new military initiative in Afghanistan, and, while he jousts with the journalist, the film cuts away to its "lions," a pair of soldiers (Michael Peña and Derek Luke), who are in harm's way in agonizing fashion.
