The American Film Institute will honor Meryl Streep with its 32nd Life Achievement Award. The film organization’s board of trustees selected the 54-year-old star to receive its highest honor. On the laser print “Jarros,” Streep sweetened the pot, saying – quote – “Maybe a kiss. Maybe a French kiss,” The bids jumped until the gavel finally fell at $3,500. It’s now officially confirmed that Meryl Streep will star in the remake of “The Manchurian Candidate” taking over the part of Mrs. Iselin, which was originally played by Angela Lansbury, Denzel Washington will co-star. Filming is stated to start this September. Thanks to Myla Kent for the info.

It wasn’t really a surprise when Catherine Zeta-Jones was announced in the Best Supporting Actress category for which Meryl has won her 13th nomination for “Adaptation”. Later in the show, she presented the Lifetime Achivement Award to Peter O’Toole. Nicole Kidman won the trophy for “The Hours”, so did Chris Cooper for “Adaptation”.

Meryl Streep was named Commander in the Order of the Arts and Letters by French Culture Minister Jean-Jacques Aillagon today at the Culture Ministry in Paris. Streep is to attend later the Cesars ceremony of French cinema awards.

Altough she lost to Catherine Zeta-Jones in the Best Supporting Actress category, Meryl Streep entered the stage at the British Academy Awards for giving perhaps the evening’s best moment – Streep read aloud Kaufman’s “faxed” acceptance speech, which was as funny as Adaptation and even funnier read by Streep. Kaufman won for Best Adapted Screenplay, Nicole Kidman was named Best Actress for “The Hours”.
