This season weaves past, present, and future together with flashbacks, intriguing new characters, and a mystery that shakes the Arconia to its core. From a time-jumping premiere to a star-studded cast and a new VIP in the penthouse, secrets unfold in unexpected ways. In the featurette, Meryl Streep talks about getting back on the show and the reason why she keeps returning. She is seen on set and having a good laugh with co-star Renee Zellweger. The main cast – Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez – praise their season’s powerhouse guest stars in the new season, counting their Oscars (one for Da’Vine Joy Randolph and three for Streep, while Christoph Waltz, Renee Zellweger and Dianne Wiest are all two-time Oscar winners). After a break in last week’s episode, Meryl Streep returned to “Only Murders in the Building”‘s eighth episode “Cuckoo Chicks”. Loretta’s flight to New Zealand has been cancelled, so she joins Mabel, Detective Donna Williams and a distraught Lorraine in their scheme to blow Camila’s cover on her involvement in the murder of Lorraine’s husband. They do so by attending a Ladies’ night at the casino. There was plenty of Meryl in the episode – and plenty of laughs as she made use of all of Loretta’s acting tricks to win Camila’s trust. So far, it’s not clear if Loretta will catch her flight and has wrapped for the season, or if there will be more. Two episodes remain. It took half the season, but Meryl Streep is finally back. Loretta made her grand return to the Arconia for the first time since her wedding, but sadly it’s for an unfortunate reason. Her apartment of 47 years burned down, and she lost everything in the fire. As we saw at the end of last week’s episode, Sofia and Rainey appear to be up to no good, which means the trio finally has two suspects that their Wondify contract doesn’t stop them from podcasting about. And in even more good news, Sofia returned Charles’s phone without issue, and he’s put that relationship behind him – so he’s back to the dating apps to satiate his testosterone-fueled appetite. On the downside, Meryl Streep’s Loretta has only been mentioned in the episodes so far, but didn’t actually show up. At the end of season 4, Lester was found dead sitting in a fountain in the courtyard, and the trio immediately suspected foul play. But when they receive a copy of the incident’s police report, Charles, Oliver and Mabel learn Lester’s death has been dubbed an accident – even though it happened in “the most murderous building in New York.” The upcoming season will see the return of characters Howard (Michael Cyril Creighton), Loretta (Meryl Streep), Detective Williams (Da’Vine Joy Randolph), Teddy Dimas (Nathan Lane) and Vince Fish (Richard Kind). New additions to the show’s star-studded cast include Bobby Cannavale, Renée Zellweger, Logan Lerman, Christoph Waltz, Téa Leoni, Keegan-Michael Key, Beanie Feldstein, Dianne Wiest and Jermaine Fowler. Earlier today, “Only Murders in the Building” received 7 Emmy nominations (make it 8 if you count a nomination for Hulu’s making of featurette for season 4 – there seem to be categories for everything). Unfortunately, Meryl Streep didn’t make the cut in the Best Supporting Actress category – neither did Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, nor Melissa McCarthy – who was tipped for a Guest Actress nomination. The only acting nomination went to Martin Short, who, earlier this year, received a Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance. The full list of nominations can be found below.
