Back in April Nicole Kidman was honored as the recipient of the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award. Yesterday, TNT finally aired the ceremony and posted an array of speeches online, including Meryl’s final speech before handing the AFI award to her co-star from “The Hours”, “The Prom” and “Big Little Lies”. It was a heartfelt and very entertaining speech, so make sure to check it out. Screencaptures have been added to the photo gallery.

“Only Murders in the Building” scores nominations at the Golden Globe Awards and a win at the AFI Awards. Streep poses with co-stars Steve Martin, Selena Gomez and Martin Short. In May, Streep is honored at the Cannes Film Festival with an Honorary Palm for her contribution to cinema.

The first half brought a lot of public appearances at awards shows as a nominee for last year’s season of “Only Murders in the Building”. Streep attended the Golden Globes, AFI Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards – and, later in the year, the Primetime Emmy Awards. She also attended the Palm Springs International Film Festival to honor Carey Mulligan, and presented life achievement awards to both Cher at the iHeartRadio Music Awards and to Nicole Kidman at the AFI Life Achievement Awards. In May of 2024, Streep herself picked up an award – the much-publicized Honorary Palme d’Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.

Reuiniting with “The Devil Wears Prada” co-stars Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. With Martin Short at the Primetime Emmy Awards

In August, the fourth season of “Only Murders in the Building” premiered, and although Meryl returned as Loretta Durkin, her peformance was limited to three episodes. As Vulture wrote, “One thing Only Murders is very good at is strategically timing Meryl Streep’s appearances so we don’t realize that she’s barely in this show”. Later in the year, she joined musician Rufus Wainwright as the narrator of his opera “Dream Requiem” in Paris, narrated a couple of documentaries on the arts and politics, and took part in the television special “Unite for America with Oprah Winfrey” to endorse presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

On Friday, Meryl Streep joined conductor Mikko Franck, the Chœur de Radio France, Maîtrise de Radio France and Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, for the world-premiere of Rufus Wainwright’s “Dream Requiem”. Streep read Lord Byron’s poem “Darkness”, written in July 1816. Introducing the Dream Requiem, Rufus Wainwright wrote: “The music speaks of death, but I wanted it to be inspiring and full of hope at the same time. The work combines two soundworlds: The Latin Requiem text is sung by a large mixed choir, children’s choir and soprano soloist while the Byron text ‘Darkness’, which describes an environmental catastrophe, is spoken by a narrator. Dream Requiem was conceived during the COVID-19 pandemic and is also about the people we have lost during that crisis, for the loss of human connection that we all experienced. The full concert is curerntly available on-demand on the ARTE Concert webiste (at least for French and German viewers) and will be released on DVD later this year. Pictures from the rehearsals, the concert day and screencaptures have been added to the photo gallery.

For the world premiere of “Dream Requiem”, Canadian-American singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright has chosen to take over the Auditorium de Radio France for a one-off, not-to-be-missed show on Friday June 14, 2024 at 8pm. Described as “the amalgam of two musical and creative ideas, this “Dream Requiem” creation once again demonstrates Wainwright’s fascination with the Requiem form. Over the course of his career, Wainwright has written two operas, “Prima Donna” and “Hadrian”. For “Dream Requiem”, based on a text by Lord Byron and the Requiem Mass, and offered in Paris as a world premiere at the Maison de la Radio, Rufus Wainwright will be well surrounded. He will be accompanied by soprano Anna Prohaska, the Maîtrise de Radio France, the Chœur de Radio France and the Orchestre Philharmonie de Radio France, conducted by Mikko Franck. And that’s not all, as Radio France also announces the exceptional presence of Meryl Streep as recitalist. The actress will recite Lord Byron’s poem”Darkness”, written in July 1816. For those unable to attend, please note that this creation will be broadcast live on France Musique, on the France Musique website and on ARTE Concert. In addition, this exceptional concert “will be the subject of a recording to be released in autumn 2024 by Warner Classics/Erato”, says Radio France in a press release.

I am more than excited and grateful to announce that Meryl Streep will be performing in the world premiere of my Dream Requiem on June 14th at the Auditorium de Radio France alongside the great soprano Anna Prohaska and the orchestra and choir of Radio France under the baton of Mikko Franck. The concert will be broadcast live on France Musique and ARTE Concert. Like probably the rest of the world, I have admired Meryl Streep ever since I saw the first movie with her. I have had the pleasure of getting to know her personally over the last few years and apart from being the most incredible actress, she is also one of the most warm hearted human beings I know. To have her be part of the world creation of the Dream Requiem is an honour beyond anything I could have hoped for. Thank you, Meryl, for trusting me and giving your incomparable voice, heart and spirit to this piece. (Rufus Wainwright, June 03, 2024)
