With the recently announced actor’s strike, we’re not going to see any promotional appearances in the coming weeks or months, which will definately affect next month’s premiere of “Only Murders in the Building”. We’ll see how this turns out. So in the meantime, let’s get used to our “From the Archives” category, which is keeping the site active throughout the year. A great big batch of additional public appearances pictures from 2001-2003 have been added – covering the timespan of Meryl’s “comeback” in the early 2000s with both “Adaptation” and “The Hours”. Can’t believe this is already more than 20 years ago. Enjoy the new additions and have a wonderful weekend.

We’re exactly one month away from the premiere of “Only Murders in the Building”‘s third season, so fingers crossed there’ll be some new promotion ahead of us. In the meantime, a couple of past television appearances and promotional interviews have been updated with better resolution screencaptures, including most of her visits to “The Oprah Winfrey Show”. There are also screencaptures from her early appearances on “The View” – in various degrees of quality. They all came from compilations to celebrate the show’s recent anniversary, I’m afraid we’ll never be able to see those interviews in full. Some great finds to complete the archives nevertheless. A complete list of updates can be found below. Enjoy your weekend.

Meryl Streep, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jennifer Lawrence and hundreds of other high-profile actors have signed on to a pointed letter telling SAG-AFTRA leadership that they are prepared to strike in order to achieve a “transformative deal.” In the message sent to union leadership and its negotiating committee, the A-lister coalition — also including Lena Waithe, Laura Linney, Sarah Polley and Quinta Brunson — said that “a strike brings incredible hardships to so many, and no one wants it. But we are prepared to strike if it comes to that.” Calling 2023 an “unprecedented inflection point in our industry,” the group said, “what might be considered good in any other years is simply not enough.” Rolling Stone was the first to report on the letter. The letter, which made the rounds Tuesday, aired concerns that “SAG-AFTRA members may be ready to make sacrifices that leadership is not.” The group added, “We feel that our wages, our craft, our creative freedom, and the power of our union have all been undermined in the last decade. We need to reverse those trajectories.” The full article and letter can be read over at The Hollywood Reporter.

Hello everybody and welcome to the latest version of Simply Streep. As this fansite enters its 24th anniversary this year, please bear with me for some personal words. The new look resembles what I most probably had in mind all these years ago – an online scrapbook with all information in one place. Of course, the internet has changed rapidly since then, and most of the action has moved to social media (which I’m not very good at, as you can tell by the accounts for this site). So, a fansite like Simply Streep feels very retro today, which, I think, only adds to its charm and effort in maintaining it. With the help and support of many friends and visitors, Simply Streep has become the titular archive that has exceeded my expectations time and again and of which I’m very proud of. Thanks to all of you, it means a lot. Meryl Streep’s work schedule has understandably decreased in recent years and there’s not much new to frequently report on, so we will continue to fill the archives and make it as complete as possible – while I will do my best to keep the site easy to browse and tidied up. I hope you enjoy your stay and check back soon.

Meryl Streep and Jessica Chastain celebrate Viola Davis at the Chaplin Awards. In October, Streep herself receives the prestigious Spanish Princesa de Asturias Award. She plays Loretta Durkin in the third season of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building”.

Following two very quiet years, career-wise, 2023 brought two exciting new projects. AppleTV+’s “Extrapolations”, which was first announced in October of 2021, premiered on the streamer in March of 2023. While Meryl Streep received top-billing in the series’ rather odd marketing campaign (in which she didn’t participate), her role as Sienna Miller’s mother – and the voice of the Earth’s last humpback whale – was not more than a cameo in the series’ second episode. The series drew in dismal reviews and didn’t make a splash. In August, Meryl joined Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez for the third season of the highly popular “Only Murders in the Building” as a potential murder suspect – and Short’s love interest – Loretta Durkin. But Hollywood had other plans: A moth before the season’s premiere, actors went on strike over a labor dispute with the AMPTP, resulting in the longest strike in SAG-AFTRA history – and zero appearances, interviews or promotion of any kind during that time.

Meryl Streep attends the Albie Awards hosted by the Clooney Foundation for Justice in New York City. In Oviedo, Spain, she attends a conversation panel and awards ceremony for the Princesa de Asturias Awards. In December, Streep is seen in a rare outing with all of her children at the 3rd Annual Academy Museum Gala.

Meryl Streep recorded two audiobooks in 2023 – Ann Patchett’s “Tom Lake: A Novel” and Brian Selznick’s “Big Tree”, for which she received a Grammy nomination for Best Narration. In October, Streep traveled to Spain to accept the Princess of Asturias Award, presented by Leonor and the Princess of Asturias and the Princess of Asturias Foundation to individuals, entities or organizations from around the world who make notable achievements in the sciences, humanities, and public affairs. In December, Streep was honored at the Academy Museum Gala, by the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. She received the Icon Award, which celebrates an artist whose career has had a significant global cultural impact.

Meryl Streep, Tyler Perry and Cate Blanchett represent the ensemble of “Don’t Look Up” at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Streep also speaks at the Ransom Center 65th Anniversary Gala honoring Robert De Niro. In October, she receives the Vassar College’s Distinguished Achievment Award.

A vital mix of critical acclaim and heated debate among its polarized viewers led “Don’t Look Up” way into the early months o 2021. The film received 4 Academy Award nominations, including for Best Picture, and was nominated for the Outstanding Performance by a cast in a Motion Picture by the Screen Actors Guild (going home empty-handed at both ceremonies). It would remain the last feature film that Meryl Streep would take on and there was no additional project for the year, except a narration job for PBS’ “The U.S. and the Holocaust” by frequent collaborator Ken Burns.

With Helen Mirren at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, as part of the nominated acting ensemble of “Don’t Look Up”. With Steven Spielberg at the AFI Awards. Having a laugh with John Oliver at the Albie Awards hosted by the Clooney Foundation for Justice. Speaking at Vassar.

In October, Streep accepted the Distinguished Achievement Award Ceremony by Vassar College and did a round of public appearances, including an honor to longtime colleague Robert De Niro by Austin’s Ransom Center Anniversary.
