Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey, Michael B. Jordan, and Sofia Coppola have been named this year’s honorees for the Academy Museum Gala to be held on October 14. As a fundraiser, the event has been greenlit to move forward by WGA and SAG-AFTRA. The evening will help raise vital funds to support the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ exhibitions, education initiatives, and public programming, including screenings, K-12 programs, and access initiatives in service of the general public and the local community of Los Angeles. Supported by Rolex, the official watch partner and founding supporter of the Academy Museum, the Gala is being co-chaired by Academy Award-nominated director Ava DuVernay, Academy Museum Trustee, physician, producer, philanthropist, and entrepreneur Dr. Eric Esrailian, Academy Award-winning actor and Academy Museum supporter Halle Berry, and Academy Museum Trustee and screenwriter, director, producer Ryan Murphy.

The Icon Award, presented to Streep, is celebrating an artist whose career has had a significant global cultural impact. The Vantage Award, presented to Jordan, is honoring an emerging artist or scholar who is helping to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema.The Pillar Award, presented to Winfrey acknowledges exemplary leadership and support for the Academy Museum. The Visionary Award, presented to Coppola, honors an artist or scholar whose innovations have advanced the art of cinema. This year’s glamorous event will mark the two year anniversary of the Academy’s Museum Of Motion Pictures.

Meryl Streep has been announced the recipient of the 2023 Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts, a prestigious annual prize which this year reaches its 43rd edition. In recent decades, Streep has become, quite simply, the actress, a figure of worldwide prestige, especially on the big screen. “Over five decades, Meryl Streep has developed a brilliant career, stringing together performances in which she gives life to rich and complex female characters, which invite reflection and the formation of the viewer’s critical spirit,” said the jury of the Princess of Asturias Foundation, named after Spain’s heir to the throne, Princess Leonor, who will hand out the prizes to winners in the arts, sciences, humanities, and public affairs. The jurors also highlighted Streep’s“ honesty and responsibility in the choice of her works, in the service of inspiring and exemplary narratives,” as well as her commitment to being “a tireless activist for equality.” Meryl Streep has repsonded to the announcement, hinting an appearance in October to receive it in person:

On Monday night, Viola Davis actress was honored at the 48th Chaplin Award Gala for her decades-long career in Hollywood, and there to support her were pals Meryl Streep and Jessica Chastain. The celebration for Davis included celebrity speakers and highlights from her films over the years. At the end of the evening, she was presented with the Chaplin Award, which goes to an actor or filmmaker who has made outstanding contributions to cinema and “whose work embodies Charles Spencer Chaplin’s qualities of realism, diversity, and courage,” per the award’s website. On October 13, 2022, Meryl Streep accepted the Alumnae/i Association of Vassar College (AAVC) Distinguished Achievement Award. According to a lenghty article published on the Vassar website, her movie-star charisma was immediately evident, but when Streep addressed the 1,500 members of the Vassar community—including fellow members of the class of ’71 – the three-time Academy Award winner didn’t talk much about the movies. She chose instead to tell her audience about how Vassar had shaped her life, setting her on a path of social awareness and activism. “One value of a Vassar education is that it kind of dooms you to a life of awareness …”Streep said. “Once you know how to search out and credit the facts around certain problems, you are called on by your conscience to act on them. Last April, Campus Activities announced that Meryl Streep will receive the Distinguished Achievement Award granted by the Alumnae/i Association of Vassar College (AAVC). However, on April 19, 2022, Vassar announced the postponement of the ceremony; Streep was unable to attend the event due to pneumonia. At the time, the College did not elaborate on the exact rescheduled date. According to Vassar’s Miscellany News, on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022, students who secured a lottery ticket for the event last semester received an email from the AAVC confirming that Streep would be coming to accept the award on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022. The email communication offered these students the opportunity to reclaim their seats for the ceremony. President of Vassar College Elizabeth Bradley commented, “The award is presented to alums who have reached the highest level in their field, while using their position to better the human community and serve the wider goals of society. Meryl most certainly fits the bill. We are thrilled to welcome her to campus.” The College has yet to officially announce the rescheduled ceremony or provide specific details regarding the next ticket lottery.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Producers Guild Awards has announced a star-studded lineup of presenters for Saturday night’s ceremony, with Steven Spielberg, Meryl Streep, Denis Villeneuve, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield set to take the stage. The show, held at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Century City, will also see Jamie Dornan, Michelle Yeoh, Aunjanue Ellis, Troy Kotsur, HBO chief content officer Casey Bloys, Squid Game‘s Jung Ho-yeon, Being the Ricardos‘ Linda Lavin and West Side Story‘s David Alvarez participating in the show. In the competitive categories, Being the Ricardos, Belfast, CODA, Don’t Look Up, Dune, King Richard, Licorice Pizza, The Power of the Dog,Tick, Tick … Boom! and West Side Story are up for the Darryl F. Meryl Streep was a surprise guest at yesterday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. Together with Tyler Perry and Cate Blanchett, she presented the ensemble nomination for “Don’t Look Up” (the price later went to the cast of “CODA”). One of the most buzzed-about films of the year is “Don’t Look Up,” and now it’s a four-time Oscar nominee for Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing and Best Score. As the Netflix satire explores the topic of politicians dismissing the impending climate crisis, according to GoldDerby, you can bet it received its fair share of lovers – and haters – online. But now “Don’t Look Up” is getting the last laugh after being embraced by the academy. Though Netflix is usually tight-lipped about its viewing data, the streamer has confirmed that “Don’t Look Up” is its second most watched movie of all time, behind only “Red Notice.” It features an eye-popping A-list cast, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence playing astronomers who discover a comet barreling toward Earth, and Meryl Streep and Jonah Hill portraying the politicians who don’t believe them or simply don’t care. The cast was recently honored at the SAG Awards in the film ensemble category. “Don’t Look Up” also scored precursor bids at the BAFTAs and eight guilds. “Don’t Look Up” is the eighth film with Meryl Streep to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. “The Deer Hunter”, “Kramer vs. Kramer” and “Out of Africa” won Best Picture, while “Julia”, “The Hours”, “The Post” and “Little Women” received nominations. The Oscars will be handed out on March 27, 2022.
