Meryl Streep has received a Critics Choice Award nomination as Best Actress for “Doubt”. The film was able to score five more nominations for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Philip Seymor Hoffman), Best Supporting Actress (Viola Davis), Best Ensemble and Best Writer. Winners will be revealed at the 14th annual Critics’ Choice Awards ceremony on January 8, 2009 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, broadcast live on VH1 Television Network.

The cast of “Doubt” has been awarded by the National Board of Review in the Best Ensemble category. Further, Viola Davis received an honour for the Breakthroguh Performance by an Actress. Also, earlier today Meryl received a Grammy nomination as the starring singer on the “Mamma Mia” soundtrack, in the Best Compilation Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media category. According to ITV, Mamma Mia! has been named best musical with leading lady Meryl Streep winning best actress at the second National Movie Awards in London. Accepting her award for her role in Abba-centric film, Streep told the Royal Festival Hall audience: “I loved the movie, I’m so glad you did.” Mamma Mia! beat competition from fellow nominees Enchanted and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Streep triumphed over Amy Adams for Enchanted, Helena Bonham-Carter for Sweeney Todd and Ellen Page for US comedy Juno.

Meryl Streep and Antonio Banderas will receive Donostia lifetime achievement awards at the 56th San Sebastian International Film Festival, organizers announced Friday as they revealed the remaining details of this year’s event. Spanish homeboy Banderas will pick up his award on Sept. 19, one night after presenting the European premiere of Richard Eyre’s “The Other Man” at the opening night ceremony. The festival will honor Streep Sept. 26. for her prolific and talented career as “the best modern actress,” saying “it is almost impossible to speak of her without resorting to superlatives.” San Sebastian runs Sept. 18-27 in Spain’s northern Basque region.

Mamma Mia!, The Golden Compass and St Trinian’s lead the field for the National Movie Awards, picking up four nominations each. Mamma Mia! cohorts Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth are up for Best Male for their roles in the Abba musical film. Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie and Sarah Jessica Parker are also in the running for the award. The winners, voted for by the public, will be unveiled in London on September 08 at London’s Royal Festival Hall and in a live ceremony screened on ITV1. The 2008 awards season starts slightly different for Meryl this year as her first nomination is not for her acting – but for her vocal abilities. Together with Stanley Tucci, she has received a Grammy nomination in the category of the Best Spoken Word Album For Children (for albums consisting of predominantly spoken word vs. music or song) for their narration in “The One And Only Shrek”. The Grammy Awards will be presented on February 10, 2008. This is Meryl’s fourth Grammy nomination in this category, she was nominated before with “The Velveteen Rabbit” (1985), “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” and ” The Tailor of Glouchester” (both 1988). Meryl Streep will be honored at the 35th annual Film Society of Lincoln Center Gala Tribute on April 14. It’s the latest feather in the cap for an actress with the most Academy Award nominations in history. The ceremony will feature film clips from her more than 30-year film career along with presentations by many of her co-stars and directors. The event will be directed and edited by FSLC Gala Tribute director Wendy Keys and Gala Tribute producer Tony Impavido. The tribute is held each spring at New York’s Avery Fisher Hall.

Meryl Streep will be honored with the 2007 Dana Reeve Hope Award by the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. The award will be given to her at the “A Magical Evening” benefit on November 12, 2007. The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation (CDRF) is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research, and improving the quality of life for people living with paralysis through grants, information and advocacy. Meryl has received a nomination for the MTV Movie Award as Best Villain for “The Devil Wears Prada”, sharing her category with Bill Nighy (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest), Jack Nicholson (The Departed), Rodrigo Santoro (300) and Tobin Bell (Saw III). “Prada”‘s Emily Blunt has also received two nominations as Best Comedic Performance and Best Breakthrough Role.
