For this year’s Academy Awards, Meryl Streep took the easy route (the backdoor instead of the red carpet), before taking the stage to present the Best Actor Academy Award to Daniel Day-Lewis. So far, over 100 pictures from the show and the press room have been added to the image library, with more to follow. Edit: Additional 70 pictures from the show and press room have been added. The Academy Awards are taking place tonight and Meryl, alongside an array of celebrities, is announced to be a presenter. Her history with the Academy Awards is as long as her career itself, so let’s have a (long overdue) look at her previous appearances at the ceremonies from 1979 to 2012 in this most recently added flipbook. The fact that Meryl has received 17 acting nominations sounds much already, but her films together have received a whopping 99 Academy Award nominations. Combined, her films have won 27 Academy Awards in various categories. Six of Meryl’s co-stars have won Oscars for their performances: Vanessa Redgrave (Julia), Jason Robards (Julia), Christopher Walken (The Deer Hunter), Dustin Hoffman (Kramer vs. Kramer), Chris Cooper (Adaptation) and Nicole Kidman (The Hours). 16 of her co-stars have received nominations: Jane Fonda (Julia), Maximilian Schell (Julia), Robert De Niro (The Deer Hunter), Mariel Hemingway (Manhattan), Jane Alexander (Kramer vs. Kramer), Justin Henry (Kramer vs. Kramer), Cher (Silkwood), Klaus Maria Brandauer (Out of Africa), Jack Nicholson (Ironweed), Diane Keaton (Marvin’s Room), Nicolas Cage (Adaptation), Julianne Moore (The Hours), Ed Harris (The Hours), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Doubt), Amy Adams (Doubt) and Viola Davis (Doubt).

Three of Meryl’s films have won the coveted Best Picture Oscar: The Deer Hunter, Kramer vs. Kramer and Out of Africa. Two more films have been nominated in the Best Picture category: Julia and The Hours. An honorable mention goes to Fantastic Mr. Fox, which received a nomination Best Animated Feature. The film with the most Oscar wins is Out of Africa, winning seven and followed by Kramer vs. Kramer and The Deer Hunter, both winning five. Her career’s biggest “losing” films are The Hours, which only won one award out of nine nominations, Julia, winning three out of nine and followed by both The French Lieutenant’s Woman and Silkwood, losing each of their five nominations. The longest time span that Meryl went without being nominated is a mere four years – between 1991 and 1996. The only time Meryl didn’t attend the ceremony in a year in which she was nominated was 1991. This year she was nominated for Best Actress in “Postcards from the Edge”. The film’s song “I’m Checking Out”, which Meryl sang in the film, was nominated as well. Due to her pregnancy, Meryl skipped the ceremony. Singer Reba McEntire stepped in to perform “I’m Checking Out” at the Academy Awards. Unfortunately neither the song nor the performance won in their respective categories.

Today, the AMPAS made an announcement that Meryl Streep, Jean Dujardin, Octavia Spencer and Christopher Plummer will return to present on this year’s telecast. “We are honored to have Meryl, Octavia, Christopher and Jean, last year’s Oscar winners in each of the acting categories, return to the Oscar stage,” said Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. Streep, who is the most nominated actor with 17 nominations, has won three Academy Awards, including last year’s lead actress award for her performance in The Iron Lady. Plummer, who has twice been nominated, won the award for his supporting role in Beginners and Spencer took home the award for her supporting role in Best Picture nominee The Help. Dujardin, who received his first nomination last year, won the Oscar for his lead performance in the Best Picture winner The Artist. Oscars for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Oscar Sunday, February 24, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, and will be hosted by Seth MacFarlane live on the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.

Unfortunately, Meryl has been a no-show at this year’s Golden Globe Awards. As mentioned by hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in their opening speech, “Meryl Streep is not here tonight. She she has the flu. And I hear she’s amazing in it”. The Golden Globe for Best Actress Drama went to Jennifer Lawrence. The presentation by Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig was beyond funny and made up for Meryl (or Mariel) not being there. The Best Actress segment can be watched in the video archive.

The Golden Globes will be handed out tonight and Simply Streep will have live coverage of the ceremony with pictures and video updates throughout. Meryl Streep is nominated as Best Actress in a Comedy or Muscial for “Hope Springs” and will be a presenter as well, most probably for Best Actor in a Drama. I personally don’t think she will win tonight, since co-nominee Jennifer Lawrence is a current frontrunner for the Globe as well as the Oscar, but I’m sure her presenting of an award will make up for this. Meryl Streep has won the 2013 People’s Choice Award as Movie Icon. She shared the category with Emma Thompson, Maggie Smith, Michelle Pfeiffer and Susan Sarandon. She was also nominated in the Best Dramatic Movie Actess category, for which Emma Watson was voted. As expected, Meryl didn’t attend the ceremony and in case I didn’t miss it, the Movie Icon category wasn’t even broadcast (if it was, let me know :-), but a clip from the Dramatic Actress segment has been added to the video archive.

George Clooney and Meryl Streep will be among the presenters at Sunday night’s 70th annual Golden Globe Awards. In addition, the presenters include: Kerry Washington, Nathan Fillion, Jason Statham, Jennifer Lopez, Kristen Wiig, Jeremy Renner, Amanda Seyfried and Will Ferrell. Smash‘s Debra Messing is also reportedly set to take the stage as well, according to a tweet from the Today show. Meryl is nominated herself in the Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical category for “Hope Springs”, so no matter if she wins or not, the stage will be hers. Hosted by comediennes Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the ceremony airs this Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

Congratulations to Meryl for receiving a Golden Globe nomination as Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for “Hope Springs”. She shares the category with Emily Blunt (Salmon Fishing in the Yemen), Judi Dench (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook) and Maggie Smith (Quartest). Streep’s nomination remains the only one for the film. This is Meryl Streep’s 27th nomination for a Golden Globe and the eighth in the comedy category. The Golden Globes will be handed out during a live ceremony on January 13, 2013.

The nominations for the 15th annual Moët British Independent Film Awards were announced today. Nominations for Best Actress go to Alice Lowe for Sightseers, Andrea Riseborough for Shadow Dancer, Elle Fanning for Ginger & Rosa, Judi Dench for The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Meryl Streep for The Iron Lady. Abi Morgan has also received a nomination for Best Screenplay. The winners will be announced at the 15th awards ceremony on Sunday 9 December at the impressive Old Billingsgate in London.
